Happy Halloween! With all the spookiness surrounding us this October, it’s got us thinking about skeletons! And most importantly how having regular adjustments with Dr Michael can help to improve your bone health! Our bones are a very important body part that help us to be strong, upright and live our life. We would be lost without our bones so it’s important that we look after them! There are two hundred and six bones of various shapes, sizes, and functions that make up our adult skeletal system. These amazing structures have many crucial roles in our body, including:
Adjustments can help relieve pain, pressure, and other serious symptoms. Once your spine is straightened out the joints and bones all over the body are able to align themselves properly. Bone is a living and growing structure made with calcium phosphate, calcium carbonate and collagen. It has many important functions in the body like providing structure, protecting organs, anchoring muscles and storing calcium. Your bones breakdown and rebuild themselves continually throughout your lifetime. Starting with chiropractic care from birth is a way to help prevent issues later on in life with your bones and the rest of your musculoskeletal system.
Keep in mind that it’s never too early to start taking care of your bones and alignment and that it’s better to get ahead of a problem before it starts! Having regular adjustments can help to ensure things are properly developing and stop any issues before they arise. We'll help you feel better today and show you how to increase your bone health through diet, exercise, supplements and consistent spinal care.

September is a very exciting month for us at Crowthorne Health & Wellness Centres. Not only is is Dr Michael’s birthday this month! (Happy Birthday Dr Pim!) but also because September 18th is Chiropractic Founder’s Day, a day that evolved healthcare and provided a different perspective on the art of healing. 127 years ago, this day marked the beginning of a discipline that changed the lives of millions of people who have now healed and are leading better lives with the help of chiropractic adjustments. What is Chiropractic Founder's Day? The first chiropractic adjustment was given by Dr. Daniel David Palmer to a janitor named Harvey Lillard. Harvey had lost most of his hearing 17 years earlier after hearing a popping sound in his neck while he was scrubbing with his brush. D.D. Palmer heard Lillard on the landing outside his office with some of the other janitorial staff. D.D. went out to listen to Lillard tell a joke. Everyone laughed, and D.D. gave Lillard a friendly slap on the back with a book. A few days later, Lillard came to D.D Palmer’s office and told him that since that time, his hearing had improved. DD Palmer. spent a few more days putting the pieces together. Then, on September 18th, 1895, he called Lillard into his office. After 30 minutes of convincing, he persuaded Lillard to lay flat on his stomach. D.D. examined Lillard’s back, found that a vertebra was out of place, and gave a sharp thrust with his hands to put the vertebra back into place. Within minutes, Lillard was able to hear the ticking of a pocket watch for the first time in seventeen years. This event led to the formation of the Palmer School of Chiropractic in 1897. Chiropractic TODAY
Today, chiropractic is recognised as the largest natural healing art. Chiropractic has gained this status as a result of the incredible results that it has enjoyed in helping millions of people to express more life. Whilst chiropractic does not claim to cure any disease or treat the symptoms of body malfunction, regular chiropractic care has been shown over and over again to be beneficial as an integral part of a person’s health regimen. A body functioning at its maximum potential is better able to express life and maintain balance and harmony with its environment. As a result, chiropractic is spreading around the world as more people realise the importance of an interference-free nerve supply and seek the benefits of a chiropractic adjustment. There’s No Time Like The Present Regular chiropractic care is one of the most important things you can do for your body today to insure your future good health. No matter what your age, your body will create more health and vitality for you with an interference-free nerve supply. Come to the practice this month and celebrate founders day with us. Ask Dr Michael for more information on the first chiropractic adjustment and how chiropractic can help you! Smile! The sun can truly bring out the best in YOU! Why is it that when the sun shines you feel happier? You see the sun influences so much of our body from better healing and healthier bodies it brings out the best in us in so many ways. When you receive sunlight your body is receiving vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin, and is packed full of benefits to prevent some diseases making stronger bones and healthier tissues, and much more. Natural is best! Avoid toxic sun tan creams as they may cause cancer and are loaded with toxic chemicals, after all, many of them harm the corral in the oceans all around the world. If it can kill corral what can it do to you? The key to sun exposure is getting small regular amounts all around the year and gradual exposure so that your body is well adjusted to living in harmony with nature. The sun gets blamed for many things, however, the more we are adjusted to our environment the healthier we are. Diets in highly refined foods and high sugar reduce the mineral content in our skin and make our skin thinner and weaker and age quicker. If you have sugar or alcohol in your bloodstream you are much more likely to turn red and burn. A study was done and many of those that ate the standard western diet got cancer when in the sun and those that ate a healthy diet none got cancer. If the sun gives life to so much of the natural world why is it blamed for causing cancer and other diseases? The answer lies in the fact that sunlight and heat speed up reactions and if your body has toxins these will cause more harm, however, a good natural diet helps protect you from skin cancer. Need advice on how to be healthy and enjoy the sun, let me know and we will be glad to help you. You may well be low in Vitamin D, how can that be? All dairy products that are pasteurised have the vitamin D destroyed, hence why in winter time when the sun is not as strong or active people often no longer have enough vitamin D. There are other options and the key is to be empowered on what to do. Hence contact us for more information. Enjoying the sunshine along with regular adjustments can greatly benefit you and Dr. Michael is always here to answer any questions you might have surrounding your health. Medicine is the treatment of the disease that has the person, natural health is about empowering you by removing that which is preventing you from naturally expressing optimum health. The power that created the body can heal the body. You are born to be healthy and well, let us help you stay that way.

You see, when Dr Michael Pim is checking your nervous system at every visit he is adjusting your spine ensuring all the electrical systems in your body are functioning correctly. Patients often come for aches pains and problems and stay for health and wellbeing. What does the nervous system do and why is it important? It controls and coordiantes every single cell in your body to work correctly, providing you with life and health. From everyday activities such as waking up; breathing, heart beating and complex processes such as thinking, reading, remembering, and feeling emotions to name just a few. Brain growth and development Sensations (such as touch or hearing) Perception (the mental process of interpreting sensory information) Thought and emotions Learning and memory Movement, balance, and coordination Sleep Healing and rehabilitation Stress and the body’s responses to stress Ageing Breathing and heartbeat Body temperature Hunger, thirst, and digestion Puberty, reproductive health, and fertility Benefits of a Healthy Nervous System Believe it or not, the simple act of taking care of your nervous system can have positive effects on both the endocrine and the immune system. The three systems work together to make the body function, therefore when one system is run down, all are affected. We love to cook, bake, share our creations, eat out together, and forage for goodies at markets, events, the office, and even the train station! Eating is a way of life, and most people think we put food in, and it somehow comes out automatically in the form of waste! That’s sort of true but there’s so much MORE to how it all happens so keep reading… Most patients DON’T come in to see us because of digestive or weight issues. BUT that doesn’t mean they aren’t experiencing it. Some feel they are past the point of no return but after being adjusted many find themselves less bloated, relieved of stomach pain and discomfort, and moving their bowels a lot healthier and easier. Why? First, think of Eating as a TEAM EFFORT and you are the captain of the team! 4 things needed for the game to be won: 1. CHOOSE WISELY.Finding the right foods for YOU is as important as choosing the right players for a first-class sports team. It may require some research and experimentation so you can experience the food in action while at the same time switching them out if they are just not working.
Bio-individuality. (A term coined by the Founder of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) Joshua Rosenthal and taught to us by our own IIN Health Coach) Basically what it means is that a diet that works for one person may not benefit another. Each person and the circumstances that led them to this point in time is a factor on what is best for their digestion and nutrition absorption among other things. Bottom line, pay attention to how you feel AFTER you eat certain foods then explore options that make your body feel even better. Need help? Let us know and we’ll refer you to some great resources! 2. NEXT, CHEW WISELY. Chewing your food begins the digestive process and it starts in your mouth. The more you chew, the more you help to break down your food. Chewing also produces digestive enzymes (in your mouth via your saliva) and the stomach acid necessary to help break down the food even further so your body can decipher the nutrients and deliver it properly throughout your entire body for use. 3. HYDRATE. By hydration we mean WATER. (And only water!) It’s important to the Team Effort because insufficient hydration slows the digestion process down. Hydration also enables your body to move the waste through various organs and vessels making sure everything is functioning properly. 4. GET ADJUSTED. Your digestive tract receives messages from your nervous system and your nervous system lives in your spine. Those messages moving every second of every day are VITAL for your digestion to perform. Misalignments, even the slightest, can impact the ability of your digestive tract and can cause issues like bloating, constipation, weight gain and even poor absorption of nutrients. Over time, digestive troubles can lead to bigger issues, consistent dis-ease and even some terminal illnesses. One thing you can consistently do to help your digestive system is to get adjusted. This will ensure a foundation of good gut and overall health. The next time you cook a meal, grab a snack, or take to the local pub, remember to take your job as captain of the team seriously! If you choose wisely, chew wisely, hydrate and keep up your adjustments, you will be more assured to be healthy and well for a long time to come! To your health, Crowthorne Health and Wellness Centres Dear Patient, Happy New Year! As we ring in 2022, we are encouraging you to take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test! (It's free, takes about 10 minutes, and can be found here: https://www.16personalities.com) This powerfully effective assessment was first invented to help doctors not only understand patients better, but to create healthier outcomes with each visit. We've also found that if a patient has a better understanding of themselves, positive changes are SELF-SUSTAINED over longer periods of time and even for life. There are 16 different personality types and they are all unique...with each group defined by their traits and the behavioral tendencies that go along with them. Based on statistics, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator allows for accurate descriptions and assessments of people. After testing it out on ourselves and a few willing friends, we noticed a significant shift in mindset, outcome expectations, and blockages that would previously get in the way of transformation. Focus on both the health of the patient AND the most effective ways to achieve optimal health (unique to that person), helps realise more success when attaining wellness goals. (And we want you to attain those goals!!) Curious to know what type YOU are? Click the link below to take the test now! (Takes 10 minutes!) Our goal this year is to become your Go-To Health and Wellness Coach! Beyond adjusting your spine and nervous system for optimum health, we also want you to have all the tools available to keep you at your best all year round!
Be sure to book in quickly as this time of year is always buzzing with the excitement of a fresh start and when you come in, be sure to share your results with Dr. Michael! If you'd like to keep it in your file, email Dr. Michael at admin@healthandwellnesscentres.com to share your results. (As always, your information is confidential) Yours in health, Amber Bratt Doctor’s Assistant Crowthorne Health and Wellness Centres Dear Patients,
Do you ever find your body feeling worse when you’re in a bad mood or when things are not going right? Do you experience any of these common symptoms when your stress levels increase?
Many times, people don’t realize or correlate pain in their body with their emotional or mental states and it has been proven time and time again to have an effect. An online study tested gratitude intervention to see if it would help patients who were self-managing their arthritis symptoms. The hypothesis question was: Would a gratitude and mindfulness intervention decrease pain, anxiety, intensity and interference, fear of movement, and increase pain self-efficacy for the group? 151 people signed up for the study and 81 people completed the trial and the final outcome showed improvements by this intervention. So what does that tell us?
At Crowthorne Family Chiropractic Centre, we believe in tackling health issues from the nervous system point of view. From there, Dr. Michael deciphers if the presenting condition requires attention of the spine, the mind, the posture, the emotions, and the nutrition of the body’s Whole Health System. Dr. Michael recently attended a course on gratitude and was surprised at how many studies there are on the effectiveness of its practice on one’s health. As we come to the close of one of the more challenging years in our lifetime, we wanted to leave you with some hope and help to not only get you through it, but to make sure you, your loved ones, and your health are set up to thrive in the new year. No matter what the challenges are on the horizon, our focus should be on how to be well and live. That way, we are assured that the best IS yet to come. Expressing Gratitude for My Body: Every morning, for the entire month of November, thank 3 things in your body for being alive. Go through the main and obvious parts of your body and thank it for doing its job. For example:
As a bonus, you may want to jot down how these 3 body parts helped you throughout the day. You may be surprised at how much more positive you will feel about your body and your health after just a few days! Happy THANKING your body, mind, and health! With Gratitude, Crowthorne Family Chiropractic Centre Our Dr. Michael is one of the Founders of ChiroU Online and his organization created a video in honour of World Gratitude Day and all the Chiropractic patients out there! Especially YOU...Our Patients!!
We hope you enjoy the video and we look forward to seeing you soon! To your health always, Crowthorne Family Chiropractic Centre |
